Alameda Chandelier
J.A. Culbertson House Chandelier
The Culbertson Lantern is an original Craftsmen Studio design adapted from the lighting of the J.A. Culbertson House in Pasadena, California, completed in 1911 — one of Charles and Henry Greene's most accomplished residential works and a landmark expression of their fully realized Arts and Crafts style.
The frame is handcrafted from hand-selected African mahogany with genuine Gaboon ebony inlays, assembled using traditional mortise and tenon joinery and suspended from traditional leather straps — a hallmark of Greene & Greene fixture design, where even the hanging hardware was considered part of the finished work.
The stained glass panels are handmade using the copper foil method, featuring an iridescent amber ground woven through with an abstract vine pattern — lighter fragments of glass emerging from the design to suggest blossoms and leaves in the organic, nature-drawn spirit that runs through so much of Arts and Crafts decorative work. The result is a living, shifting quality of light that changes subtly throughout the day as the light moves through the glass.
