Santa Monica
Greene and Greene Blacker House Reproduction
The Santa Monica Pendant is inspired by the staircase light fixture of the Robert R. Blacker House in Pasadena, California, completed in 1907 — widely considered the most ambitious and complete expression of Charles and Henry Greene's architectural vision, and one of the crown jewels of the American Arts and Crafts movement.
The shade features the cloud-lift profile and seagull-shaped decorative cutouts that give this pendant its distinctive coastal character — a design coherence that runs from the carved wood details through to the stained glass itself. The frame is handcrafted from hand-selected African mahogany with genuine Gaboon ebony inlays, and the leather suspension straps are threaded through the top of the fixture, emerging beneath the roof before returning gracefully back into the shade — a quietly ingenious detail that is pure Greene & Greene in its marriage of beauty and function.
The handmade stained glass panels are crafted using the copper foil method, depicting sailboat rigging on one face and seagulls in flight on the other — a warm amber glass that shifts and glows as the light moves through it. Together with the carved seagull cutouts, the effect is a pendant that tells a single cohesive story from every angle.
